Bedfordshire bird news April 2021
A Hoopoe was seen in a garden at Biddenham 18th. A male Pied Flycatcher was at Blows Down briefly 22nd. Also at Blows Down was a Ring Ouzel 14th and 20th-21st.
Up to five Ring Ouzels were at Pegsdon Hills from 12th, other Ring Ouzel sightings: three Galley Hill 11th, a single Warden Hill 14th, two Sewell Quarry, Caddington 19th, three near King’s Wood 23rd, two at Kensworth Quarry 24th, one Southill 29th, one at Sandy by River Ivel and another nearby at Hawkesbury Meadow 30th. A Black Redstart was at Flitwick 11th-12th and another was at Pegsdon Hills 18th.
A Siberian Chiffchaff was singing at Broom GPs until 12th and a Wood Sandpiper was at Gypsy Lane East 26th-27th. A Wood Sandpiper was at Black Cat GPs 30th with a Spotted Redshank there 30th and two Spotted Redshanks were at Grovebury SP 25th.
Three Black Terns were at Stewartby Lake as were thirty-five Little Gulls and up to seventy Arctic Terns 23rd. The movement of Little Gulls continued through Bedfordshire 24th with low double figure counts at Stewartby Lake, Broom GPs and Black Cat GPs. Two Kittiwakes were at Stewartby Lake 6th and the only other Black Tern was at Black Cat GPs 28th.
A Common Crane was at Quest Pit then flew towards Coronation Pit 6th and a Spoonbill flew west over Broom GPs 10th. A Garganey was seen at Marston Vale Millenium Country Park 18th and Meadow Lane GPs 22nd and one flew over Black Cat GPs 28th.
