Hertfordshire bird news March 2024

Two Garganey were at RSPB Rye Meads 21st and up to two Smew remained at Amwell NR until 17th.  A Scaup remained at Hilfield Park Reservoir. Nine Dark-bellied Brent Geese were at Stanborough GP 11th.

 

Highlights at Wilstone Reservoir were two Little Gulls 10th (also seen at Tringford Reservoir) and twelve 31st, an Osprey 29th & 31st, twenty-eight Waxwings 22nd, and a Pink-footed Goose until 30th. A Little Gull was also at Fairlands Valley Park 8th and another was at Marsworth Resrvoir 10th-11th.

 

A Ring Ouzel was at Pitstone Common 23rd and a Woodlark flew over the Gorhambury Estate 19th. The Black Redstart remained at St Albans cathedral until 17th and one was again at Ickleford 9th, 15th & 18th.There were Waxwings seen at Letchworth, Tewin and Hatfield.

 

Other summer visitors included, Little Ringed Plover, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Yellow Wagtail, Wheatear, House Martin, Sand Martin and Swallow.
