Hertfordshire bird news December 2025

A Yellow-browed Warbler at St Albans south-east end of Verulamium Lake 31st. A Black Redstart was at Stanborough Pits 19th and Royston 27th. The Dartford Warbler was again at Tewin Fields.

 

A Ferruginous Duck was at West Hyde GPs from 20th. A drake Smew was in the Lee Valley CP on Bowyer's Water until 10th. Up to two Smew were at Amwell NR and up to two Black-necked Grebe were there 30th-31st. A drake Smew was at Wilstone Reservoir 26th and a Garganey was at Coursers Road GPs 7th & 28th.

 

There was an influx of White-fronted Geese and Tundra Bean Geese at the end of December. Best count of the latter species was five at Tring.
