Hertfordshire bird news April 2026
A drake Lesser Scaup was at Wilstone Reservoir from 13th -26th and then at Startop's End Reservoir from 28th. A Ferruginous Duck was at Maple Lodge NR from 18th-20th. A Slavonian Grebe was at Hilfield Park Reservoir 8th.
A Hoopoe was at Hunsdon from 27th. A Wood Warbler at Northaw Great Wood CP 20th-22nd there were a few Ring Ouzels at scattered site at the beginning of April and Black Redstart at Batford 7th.
There was an influx of Wood Sandpipers at the end of April to the Lee Valley including up to seven at King's Mead.
The highest count of Black Terns was seven at Wilstone Reservoir 24th and six at Tyttenhanger GP 24th. The highest number of Arctic Terns was also seven at Wilstone Reservoir 29th. A Sandwich Tern was at Stewartby Lake 11th and a Little Tern was at Amwell NR 24th
A Little Gull was seen at Wilstone Reservoir 2nd, 17th and 25th and a Kittiwake was there 2nd. The Little Gull was also at Startop's End Reservoir 2nd and five were at Hilfield Park Reservoir 23rd.
