Hertfordshire bird news April 2022
Highlights at Wilstone Reservoir included the Green-winged Teal, which remained until 4th, Osprey 10th, Sandwich Tern 12th, Pink-footed Goose until 13th, three Common Crane 22nd, up to five Arctic Tern on several dates between 18th-25th, up to three Little Gull 23rd-26th and a Garganey 24th & 28th. Up to fifteen Arctic Terns were at Startop's End Reservoir 23rd-24th, plus up to ten Little Gulls 23rd-24th and an Osprey 27th. An Arctic Tern was at Marsworth Res 27th and up to eleven Sandwich Terns 12th.
Up to two Ring Ouzels were at Therfield Heath 26th-28th and another was at Bourne End 19th. Black Redstarts were at Marshalswick 2nd, Coopers Green GPs 3rd, Cadwell 11th and Frogmore GP 26th. A Water Pipit was at Coopers Green GPs 3rd.
A Common Crane flew over Sandridge 14th and an Osprey flew over Sawbridgeworth & Welwyn Garden City 9th
Six Little Gull were at Amwell NR 24th, plus a Sandwich Tern 9th and White-fronted Goose was there from 29th. A Smew was at Rye Meads RSPB 1st and a Garganey was at the North Metropolitan Pit 2nd. Up to four Little Gulls was at Hilfield Park Reservoir on some dates between 18th-29th.
