Hertfordshire bird news May 2026

A Hoopoe was at Hunsdon 1st.

 

The drake Lesser Scaup remained at Startop's End Reservoir until 5th and was then at Tringford Reservoir 5th, before moving to College Lake. Two Black-necked Grebe were at Wilstone Reservoir 10th and two Black Terns were at Marsworth Reservoir 18th.

 

There were some left overs from the April influx of Wood Sandpipers including up to seven at King's Mead until 4th and singles at Amwell NR, RSPB Rye Meads and and Tyttenhanger GP all on the 1st.
