Hertfordshire bird news May 2022
In the Lee Valley a Glossy Ibis was at Hall Marsh Scrape 3rd. A Wood Sandpiper was at Amwell NR 2nd and up to two were there 12th-13th. Other highlights were six Arctic Terns and two Sandwich Terns 3rd and a White-fronted Goose 7th & 23rd. A female Smew was on Seventy Acres Lake 15th. Two Black-necked Grebe were at RSPB Rye Meads 24th.
A Stone Curlew was just east of Baldock 21st-22nd. A female Pied Flycatcher was at How Wood 6th. A Ring Ouzel was at Hitchin Lavender Farm 1st-2nd, St Albans 2nd, and another was at Therfield Heath at Church Hill 3rd.
Highlights at Stanborough GPs were a Ring Ouzel 2nd, a Wood Sandpiper 2nd and 7th and two Garganey 8th. A Black Tern was seen at Startop’s End Reservoir and Wilstone reservoir 10th-12th. A Garganey was at Wilstone Reservoir 4th.
