Hertfordshire bird news January 2026

The most bizarre record was of a Corncrake at Amwell NR 5th. Up to two Smew were at Amwell NR throughout January. Two Smew were on Abbotts Lake at Stanstead Abbotts GPs 16th.

 

A Yellow-browed Warbler at St Albans at Verulamium Lake until 3rd. The Dartford Warbler was again at Tewin Fields.

 

Five Tundra Bean Geese were at Tring until 10th and another was at Cheshunt 4th-20th.

 

A Ferruginous Duck was at West Hyde GPs until 3rd. The Garganey was at Coursers Road GPs and Tyttenhanger GP until 24th.
